Ratings (Elo / FargoRate)
How player Elo ratings work: Fargo-style scale, robustness, skill tiers, and head-to-head odds.
Every player has an Elo-style FargoRate calculated from league frames — not a typed-in handicap. The engine is the same family of maths pool players know from FargoRate: a Bradley-Terry (Elo) model on a 500 baseline, where 100 rating points ≈ 2:1 odds to win a single rack (200 points ≈ 4:1).
Ratings live on the public stats page, player profiles, match pages, scorecard name lists, and the player portal. They update from completed scorecards; the table is rebuilt by replaying frames in chronological order so a corrected result stays consistent.
What you see on the stats page
- Sort by FargoRate, most wins, win percentage, or frames played
- Filter all / active / provisional / established
- Search by player or team name
- A short explainer of the 100-point rule, robustness, and head-to-head predictions
Robustness (provisional vs established)
Robustness is the number of frames recorded in the rating system. Below 200 frames the player is Provisional and the rating moves faster. From 200 frames they are Established and the K-factor settles lower so the number is more stable.
Skill tiers (optional)
When classification labels are on (Settings), the site shows skill pills:
- 700+ Elite / Pro
- 600–699 Master / Advanced
- 525–599 Upper Intermediate
- 450–524 Intermediate
- 375–449 Lower Intermediate
- Below 375 Novice
Turn Display Elo Skill Classification Labels off in Settings if you only want the raw number (for example 542) without tier or provisional badges.
Singles, doubles, and starting values
Singles frames update each player at full strength. Doubles use the pair’s average rating and apply half the usual K-factor to each partner. New players start at 500 unless you set an initial rating when you add them in Admin → Players (useful if you already know a visiting player’s level).
Head-to-head
On a player page you can compare two players: expected rack win percentage plus race-to-3 and race-to-5 match odds. Those numbers are predictions from the ratings, not a guarantee of tonight’s result.
The Mossley demo’s public stats page is the best place to see the leaderboard with real names and ratings.
